I first picked up a camera at the age of nine. It was a Kodak Hawkeye and I remember feeling an excitement surge through me: I had fallen in love. It was a love that would grow, inspire and last to this day. Since then, I have had the pleasure of meeting and calling friends some of the finest photographers of this generation. My heroes, Lee Friedlander, Garry Winogrand, Walker Evans, Diane Arbus have stirred me to always pursue the passion and stay true to the art.
With the advent of digital technology, the method may have changed, but the nature of art has not. Any Jerry Uelsmann photograph will reveal Photoshop's inspiration; technology is no substitute for art. But it has helped enhance the artist's vision and expand the horizon of the lens.
The aim of DigitalStop is to cherish the artistic vision and embrace technology as an unprecedented tool to realize it. Through a series of hands on, dynamic workshops given by expert professionals, DigitalStop merges art with the innovative tools of today to allow incredible results.
The workshops also help to bring this art form to the Oakland Children's Hospital. I personally volunteer my time there and bring photography into the lives of the children who spend so much of their time within those sterile walls..
Simply put, this is a series of workshops arising from passion: a passion for the art of the photograph.
